Summertime is finally here! The kids are off school, the weather is beautiful, and getting outside is just what every winter weary Canadian needs. What better way to do this than to host a backyard party! This can be a great way to reconnect with friends not seen since the snow began to fall. Some tips when hosting a part
Keep It Simple. When having people over for a meal, trying new elaborate recipes can be fun! If you are hosting an event outside, just keep in mind the elements! Sunshine, heat, and humidity may affect your food, so keep the menu simple!
Say Yes When invited guests offer to bring a dish, it may be tempting to politely decline. Being the host may make you feel the need to provide all the food. I say, let them bring a dish! This adds variety to the meal, and a chance to try something different!
Supply Icebuckets Having to go in the house to grab drinks from the fridge is inconvenient, and is a good way to end up letting flys into your home. Provide icebuckets! Even if you do not own any, that’s ok. Any plastic tote will work fine! Just fill them with ice and your favorite drinks!
Plan Activities If you have a pool, you are set! If not, there are still many ways to have fun! Frisbee is great, croquet is fun, and for the more adventurous, water balloons! If providing these, you may want to give your guests some advance notice though!
If you are the guest offer to provide a dish or fruit tray, bring a hostess gift to show your appreciation for the invitation, or help tidy up at the end. There are many ways to say thank-you, and little extra help is always appreciated.
